Who goes there?

For #troopertuesday I’m featuring a pair of Imperial Sandtroopers. Sandtroopers are a specialized type of Stormtrooper, trained and equipped to operate on desert worlds such as Tatooine, Jakku, and Jedha. Their armour is upgraded with cooling fans, helmets with sand filters, and they carry survival backpacks with extra rations and water. We first saw SandtroopersContinue reading “Who goes there?”

The darkest hour is just before dawn

I thought I would share something new today: a Lighting Recipe where I show exactly how I lit this shot. I am partial to low key photography with soft lighting – placing emphasis on only specific areas of the frame using light, otherwise dark tones throughout, and with a smooth transition between light and shadow. Continue reading “The darkest hour is just before dawn”

‘I attempted to rise, but was not able to stir…’

This is my entry in Brickcentral’s monthly themed activity: #bcteamwork Our goal was to craft a scene where several minifigures/characters join forces, doing something epic, or cute, or crazy, or something very simple. Totally up to us. Our guidelines: use LEGO minifigures/characters (more than 4 different minifigures/characters please!) only new pictures use the hashtags #brickcentralContinue reading “‘I attempted to rise, but was not able to stir…’”

❤️ Happy Mother’s Day! ❤️

Behind the Scenes I enjoy sharing a look atContinue reading “❤️ Happy Mother’s Day! ❤️”

Behind Enemy Lines

Shot down by rebel scum, and with their searchlights getting closer, the TIE Fighter pilot abandons his wrecked starfighter and slips into the night. He wonders: did the distress beacon signal get out? … Earlier this year, I was glad to see LEGO release this icon from the classic Star Wars trilogy – the soundContinue reading “Behind Enemy Lines”

🎶 Home, home on the range… 🎶

It’s #spacecowboysaturday – thought I’d join in on the fun! Behind the Scenes I get a fair number of encouraging comments and questions about my LEGO photography on Instagram (@toyingwithlight), and I’ve started sharing my creative process. If you’ve seen any of these before, you’ll know that I consider four fundamental things: The Idea LightContinue reading “🎶 Home, home on the range… 🎶”

Medical droid, at your service.

Star Wars fans will recognize this model of medical droid, known as the 2-1B series. We first see one in action during The Empire Strikes Back, treating Luke Skywalker after his encounter with the wampa ice creature on Hoth, and then again after he lost his right hand duelling Darth Vader. The 2-1B with thisContinue reading “Medical droid, at your service.”

The Mouth of Sauron

What a minifigure – one of my new favourites! Fans of The Lord of the Rings will instantly recognize this dark sorcerer, Sauron’s herald and messenger. Appearing in Peter Jackson’s extended edition of The Return of the King, this character was brought to the real world in the LEGO set 79007 Battle at the BlackContinue reading “The Mouth of Sauron”

I thought I would share a look behind the scenes, as this was my most ambitious lighting setup yet. I take a deliberate approach to the creative process behind my LEGO photography, and considerContinue reading “Old Mos Eisley”
